Done and done!
And done! Well, more or less anyway. Pretty happy with how it turned out, better than expected. Looks pretty good with color and lighting. Despite all the stress and repeated all-nighters in a row, it was fun working on it and I think our team came together really well in the end. Learned lots from you all and enjoyed working with you. I'm already excited about next year's film.
Have a great summer everyone. See you in the fall.
p.s. For everyone out of town who can't get the dvd, Brock's posted the compilation trailer (of all 3rd yr films) on his blog. Check it out.

Some Instruction...
OK, so I thought about it and I think the best way for me to try and show you how I go about doing a painting in the style of the film was to make a tutorial. So I tried doing so. The thing about making a tutorial is that it doesn't necessarily help you do it stylistically. That is up to you. This shows you the technical process of how I did it. I'll try to give tips on rendering style but we're all artists here and ideally you guys should be able to absorb from observing more from me just outright telling you.
Ok so I'm going to tell you how I went from this...

Ok and now for one more polishing technique. Save it. Then merge the layers together and go to "Image" - "Adjustment" - "Color Balance".

ALT while on your brush tool turns it into the eyedropper tool. EXTREMELY helpful. This allows you to borrow the colours around you with great speed and therefore not interrupting your thoughts while you are in the zone of painting.
Ctrl+SHIFT+Z is "Step Backwards". I'm sure all of you already know this but it's worth noting due to it's importance.
"[" and "]" control your brush size. from 1 to 10 it changes by 1 size and from 10 and up it changes by 10s.
Holding down Ctrl and pressing - or + changes the zoom of your image.
A technique I like to use that I find really effective is what I like to call "Carving". For example if I make a line and want to give it more weight by adding more volume to it. I can use the colour around it to dig into it to help form the way I want.

Well I hope this helps for those of you who are painting. If you have any more questions. Just ask!

New designs for props and layouts
Things to note according to Ben:
The bar should actually be much wider. and it should be about twice as wide as the design shows. Also most of the trees near the ruins should be bare (leafless) but could have the hairy moss hanging from some of the limbs (20%).

BG Painting Tests
Somewhat inspired by Pascal Campion's stuff (painted in Flash) and also Jon Klassen's An Eye for Annai. Would look better if I had some textures to import. Maybe next time.
Now that I think of it, I could have added the same glow effect to the ground that I used for the lights instead of that harsh ring.
The reason it's not as vibrant as some of the other test paintings is because I muted the colours down so they wouldn't overpower the characters. Even the lights are muted so they won't compete for attention. I'll put these tests and the original files on the server so anyone can change the colours and re-arrange the layouts to explore other possibilities.

Monster Story - Leica Reel
Hey guys, for anyone who wants to watch the leica reel again here it is! Good job to everybody's hard work. For anybody who wants the hard copy of this leica, it should be on the server.
I'm trying the built in video app from blogger so... if that doesn't work i'll upload the one from youtube as soon as it's finished processing.
